Try to get them to understand that you would rather have your son spend his free time reading a book rather than playing video games.
If the school is telling students to play the Mario games (I doubt that), then you should call the teacher or the principal, ask for a meeting, and discuss that. If you think something bad is happening to your son from playing this game, then tell him not to.
